windows phone rayThere is plenty of Windows Phone hardware on the horizon, Now Nokia's new Windows Smart Phone has been released with Mango update. After all, the reach of the smart phone depicts a higher level company's recent efforts to find the new relevance with a new mobile platform.

Android Developers on Google+

I've been fortunate enough to be involved with Android since the 0.9 preview SDK was released to developers back in 2007. A lot has changed since then, but one thing that hasn't is the rapid pace at which new tools, resources, and information have become available for us Android developers. Just look at the last few months.

In December Android Training launched, with its first set of classes designed to demonstrate the best practices behind building great Android Apps.

Earlier this month, the Android design site went live — offering a place to learn about the principles, building blocks, and patterns you need to make good design decisions when creating your Android app interfaces.

We've got a lot more planned in the coming year, so to help you keep abreast of all the latest Android developer news we're launching the +Android Developers page on Google+!

One of my favourite things about Google+ is the quality of conversation around posts, so +Android Developers will focus on being a place for the people behind the Android developer experience, and Android developers all around the world, to meet and discuss the latest in Android app development.

We'll be posting development tips, discussing updates to the SDK and developer tools, highlighting new Android training classes, and posting video and pics from Android developer events around the world.

We'll also be using Google+ Hangouts to help us all interact even more closely. Starting with weekly broadcast office-hours on Hangouts On Air to answer Android development questions. These will happen every Wednesday at 2pm Pacific Time (10pm UTS) in Mountain View—expect to see these hangouts in more time zones as our teams in London, Sydney, and Tokyo get involved. Each hangout will be recorded for YouTube, so if you can't join us live you won't miss out.

It turns out that hangouts are a lot of fun, so we'll be doing more of these that feature interviews with Google engineers and 3rd party Android app developers willing to share their tips and experiences.

Aplicación Gratuita para imprimir desde tu celular de Xerox

Xerox PrintBack es una aplicación gratuita desarrollada por la compañia del mismo nombre. Este pequeño utilitario te permitirá instalar el software en tu impresor e imprimir directamente las fotos tomadas en un smartphone o tabletpc, también podrás imprimir tus documentos directamente sin necesidad de descargarlos al computador.
Por otra parte la aplicación permite conectarse a Dropbox desde uno de estos dispositivos móviles y descargarlos a una carpeta de tu ordenador, remotamente para posteriormente imprimirlos.
Los usuarios de Android o Apple OS podrán configurar el software para acceder a una impresora conectada a su computador personal, dígase un PC o Mac e imprimir los documentos de una manera sencilla y segura.

La App PrintBack está disponible como descarga gratuita en el sitio de Xerox.com, también puedes descargarlo desde los sitios de Android Market y en el Apple App Store.

Herramienta para Virus Flashback en Mac


Grande ha sido el revuelo que ha levantado la noticia de la propagación del virus conocido como FlashBack que ha infectado en los últimos días a más de 600k computadoras MAC en todo el mundo, un poco más del 1% de las Macs que existen distribuidas a nivel mundial.
El virus aprovecha una vulnerabilidad de Java en este sistema operativo para ganar el control de Mac sin necesidad de que el usuario introduzca una contraseña. Si bien aún Oracle, el propietario de Java, no ha lanzado una actualización existen algunos procedimientos y kits de limpieza desarrollados para atender la infección.
Entre la soluciones para la emergencia F-Secure fue uno de los primeros en lanzar un procedimiento manual para la desinfección de FlashBack, algo más bien engorroso para la mayoría de los usuarios pero te permite librar el malware, en una segunda reacción F-Secure ofrece una herramienta automática de desinfección la FlashBack Removal Tool, como se conoce en inglés, puede ser descarga desde este link de F-Secure con las respectivas instrucciones de uso.
Flashback ha roto un poco el mito de la vulnerabilidad de las Mac ante los virus informáticos, este hecho es el comienzo quizás de que los hackers y programadores de malware observen la posibilidad de desarrollar virus a este sistema operativo ampliamente difundido en el mundo.
Por su parte Apple el fabricante de Mac y OS X ha declarado que está trabajando para ganar en seguridad con los proveedores de internet a nivel mundiales así como para proveer mayor integridad ante este y otros posibles virus en el futuro, también ha recomendado deshabilitar el java del navegador de internet, mantener las actualizaciones automáticas de las versiones Java que por defectos están activas.
La versión Java para Mac que cubre la vulnerabilidad es la del 3 de abril del presente para las versiones corriendo OS X v10.7 y Mac OS X v10.6, para versiones anteriores a Mac OS X v10.5 y anteriores se recomienda desactivar el componente Java en el Navegador.
Así que si eres dueño de un Mac, ve instalando un antivirus y actualiza periódicamente la versión de tu componente Java en tu navegador.



Requeremientos: Mac OS X v10.6

Se recomienda actualizar a la versión 10.6 o deshabilitar Java en el navegador de internet de tu Mac.

Bruce Sterling on Earth-Friendly Pervasive Computing

Noting that the word 'computer' is disappearing from technologists' vocabularies, science fiction author and futurist Bruce Sterling believes that as the Internet subsumes computing, we are truly on the path toward a highly embedded wireless network in which nearly everything is a node:

In 2007 the computer gave up taking over the world. Instead the world took over the computer. The Internet became a wholly owned subset of Reality 2.0. When the actual world invades the virtual world, it scatters the computer into tiny physical pieces, some no bigger than dust. "Intelligent printing," another modern darling, is semiconductor ink sprayed on cardboard. There's never been a humbler, cheaper "computer."

Sterling envisions a world in which the chips that drive it are powered by tiny amounts of ambient energy -- nearly any form of heat or light will do. Such chips would have such low power requirements that they wouldn't need a dedicated power source, and would use up hardly any natural resources.

Self-Healing Plastic

Researchers at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign (UIUC) have developed a nanotechnology polymer that can 'heal' itself by filling in cracks and tears automatically. Although self-healing plastic is not an entirely new concept, the UIUC material is different because it can repair itself multiple times without any intervention.

The material could have important uses where making repairs is difficult, where materials are under enormous stress and/or where material failure would be catastrophic -- such as in implanted medical devices, airplane and spacecraft components, and microprocessors. The UIUC researchers emphasize, however, that practical applications are years away, and that initial products will be highly expensive.
